Legislative
IEC has
a new & dynamic legislative program designed to cover
a wide range of issues, while providing a strong presence
and unified voice on Capitol Hill. IEC has expanded its monitoring
and lobbying activities at the Federal level. IEC currently
monitors:
- The
regulatory activities of 7 Federal Departments & 12
Federal Agencies
- The
legislative activities in 17 full committees and 27 subcommittees
in the U.S. Congress
IEC
is involved with the important issues that have a direct impact
on your business. Some of which include:
- Training
and Education Issues
- Stopping
Union "salting" abuse, by working to pass amendments
to the National Labor Relations Act to protect the "Open
Shop" philosophy and the right to work · Raising
the jurisdictional threshold of the National Labor Relations
Board
- Active
lobbying campaigns on regulatory issues that positively
and negatively effect your business
- Monitoring
of state legislative activity and work closely with each
IEC state chapter focusing on Project Labor Agreements,
Utility Deregulation, Apprentice Ratio's, and Codes &
Standards
Legislative Accomplishment During 1999
- IEC
was instrumental in passing H.R. 1441, the Truth in Employment
Act of 1999 out of its subcommittee, Employer and Employee
Relations and out of its full committee, the House Education
and Workforce Committee
- Over
200 IEC members participated in the 1999 Legislative Conference.
IEC members made over 1,000 appointments on Capitol Hill.
- The
IEC Good Government Political Action Committee raised over
$145,000 in 1998-99. The IEC-PAC contributed over $125,000
to House & Senate incumbents and challenger candidates
for the November Congressional elections
- Working
to pass NLRB Jurisdictional Threshold language (H.R. 1620)
in the House Appropriations Committee
- Instrumental
in a coalition working to cut the NLRB's budget by $11.7
million in FY 2000
- Key
member of Construction Coalition that worked to pass H.R
1987, the Attorney's Fees bill in committee and on the House
floor.
Legislative Goals For 2000
- Continue
the positive growth and progress of IEC's government relations
program on Capitol Hill
- 300
IEC members will arrive in Washington D.C. for the 2000
Legislative Conference to continue to show our elected officials
that IEC is an active political force
- Provide
continued excellent service and representation for IEC members
across the country.
