THE KEY TO A GREAT FUTURE
Electricians are highly trained tradesman who earn one of the top hourly wage
rates in the construction industry. They can use their training in Residential,
Commerciai and Industrial settings. Many experienced electricians continue
their careers as supervisors, superintendents, or owners of electrical contracting
businesses.
THE FOUR YEAR APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM
Nationally, most states require an approved program of l44 classroom
hours per year for 4 years and a On-The-Job focused training of 8,000 hours
for a professionally recognized Journeyman License. The I.E.C. Chesapeake has twelve separate training locations, serving central, southern and western Maryland, District of Columbia, Virginia & West Virginia. These programs are approved by the District of Columbia Apprenticeship Council, Maryland Apprenticeship and Training Council (MATC), Virginia Department of Labor, and West Virginia Apprenticeship Council.
ELECTRICAL QUICK START TRAINING PROGRAM
IEC Chesapeake while partnering with Anne Arundel Community College has developed
a challenging two week (80-Hour) training course designed to train an existing
labor pool presently lacking the skills required to become electricians.
This program will enable these students to qualify to enter the Electrical
Apprenticeship program with IEC and upon completion become electricians.
Students will receive training in the basic electrical requirements such
as tool comprehension and utilization, basic math skills, understanding electrical
terms, material identification and use. Wiring methods such as the use of
Electrical Metallic Tubing will also be demonstrated. The goal of this training
program is to provide this untapped labor pool the skills required to be
successful when entering the electrical trade.
GREEN HELPER/NEW HIRE PROGRAM
This 40-Hour training program has been developed, in conjunction with Anne
Arundel Community College , to provide a New Hire Training option to Electrical
Contractors. This unique program will provide the basic skills that usually
take 6 to 8 weeks of on the job training. Course content will consist of
the basics in tool use, material identification and use, as well as some
of the more popular wiring techniques. The goal of this program is to reduce
the existing stress on Journeymen electricians who presently are required
to not only perform their normal tasks but train the new hire. Upon completion
of this course the electrical helper will have the skills needed to understand
basic electrical wiring as well as what he is required to do while working
with qualified electricians.
COLLEGE DEGREES
